Short curing times in water-based 2K PU systems

Water-based 2K polyurethane coatings formulated from a polyol and an isocyanate possess excellent properties – resistance to weathering (with aliphatic isocyanate), chemicals, corrosion, and so on. However, they usually have very long curing times in comparison to solvent-based systems. To accelerate the drying time of these water-based systems, it is necessary to incorporate additional catalysts or increase the hydroxyl group content of the polymer, which can lead to undesirable side effects.

Comindex can offer you a solution with NECOWEL 720, a polyol from our represented brand ASK, due to its short curing time.

NECOWEL 720 is a VOC-, SVOC- and APEO-free polyol. It is formed by a high molecular weight polyester backbone incorporating building blocks which increase reactivity to isocyanates, allowing drying time to be reduced to only 3 hours. In addition, 2K polyurethane lacquers formulated using this polyol have the following properties
 

  • High gloss
  • Excellent chemical and weathering resistance
  • High scratch resistance
  • No yellowing
