Is whiteness possible while maintaining biodegradability? Yes, it is!

Anhydrous calcium sulphate is a natural alternative to titanium dioxide which does not affect the compostability of your product. The calcium sulphate mineral is extracted in Spain by the company TOROGIPS and is treated to obtain a hydrophobic powder with high whiteness.

Comindex can offer two grades of this mineral for thermoplastics, TOROWHITE Ti-ExR 04 and TOROWHITE Fil 04:

  • Ti-ExR 04 is used as a partial substitute for titanium dioxide, delivering significant cost reductions.
  • FIL 04 is a functional additive that offers completely new characteristics to the polymer matrix.

Anhydrous calcium sulphate can be easily dispersed in thermoplastics, has excellent compatibility with all types of polymer matrices and is a sustainable and low-cost alternative to titanium dioxide.

TOROWHITE is suitable for food contact, and as it is a natural mineral it does not affect biodegradability and compostability, making it the ideal choice for biopolymer applications for packaging.

Some of the benefits of TOROWHITE include the following:

  • High purity > 99% CaSO4, odourless and biodegradable
  • Excellent whiteness and brightness
  • Resistance to high temperatures
  • Avoids wear to the extruder. Easy to process due to its low Mohs hardness
  • Narrow particle size distribution
  • High compatibility with polymers, enabling high performance in terms of mechanical impact resistance
  • A cost-effective alternative as a spacer for white pigment
