Improve adhesion with high open time acrylic emulsions

The 36XX family – acrylic emulsions from Alberdingk Boley – boasts unique technology, providing it with improved properties compared with those presented by traditional acrylic emulsions. The latter use conventional surfactants – both anionic and nonionic – to stabilise the resin particles. These have a tendency to migrate, which causes adhesion problems and water sensitivity etc.

In contrast, the 36XX family uses hydrophilic polymeric surfactants, which are stable in aqueous mediums, and are anchored to the resin particle. In this way, we avoid their migration, and, therefore, potential adhesion problems.

With the electrosteric stabilisation obtained with these polymeric surfactants, we achieve greater repulsion between particles, resulting in:
 

  • Longer open times
  • More Newtonian rheology
  • High water resistance
  • Improved adhesion
  • High blocking resistance

In addition to the properties mentioned, these emulsions are characterised by having high transparency and clarity in the can.

Within the range of products from this family, Comindex recommends the following products:
 

  • ALBERDINGK AC 3630 has high chemical and stain resistance, good sanding properties and is self-crosslinking. Its MFFT is 25ºC. It is recommended for industrial and furniture wood finishes, varnishes and DIY lacquers.
  • ALBERDINGK AC 3640 has good sanding properties, good hardness development and blocking resistance. Its MFFT is 30ºC. It is recommended for economical parquet and furniture coatings and for DIY varnishes and enamels.
  • ALBERDINGK AC 3650 stands out for its excellent wood warming, good blocking resistance and hardness development, coupled with a high gloss. Its MFFT is 38ºC. It is recommended for economical parquet and furniture coatings and for DIY varnishes and enamels.
  • ALBERDINGK AC 3660 has high surface hardness, excellent hot tyre resistance, and good chemical and stain resistance. It has epoxy functionality. Its MFFT is 55ºC. It is recommended for DIY enamels and varnishes, concrete coatings and all types of wood coatings.
  • ALBERDINGK AC 3687 stands out for its blocking resistance, good chemical resistance, excellent hot tyre resistance and it is self-crosslinking. Its MFFT is 0ºC. It is recommended for industrial furniture coatings, gloss paints, exterior wood coatings and concrete coatings.
