Requirements for aqueous paints are becoming increasingly more demanding: formulation at high pH, without biocides, without VOCs, formulation of concentrates that are compatible with bases of a different nature, pigments that are difficult to wet, etc… As a result, there is a need to formulate two dispersing additives with a wide range of applications and which can be used in a wide variety of markets and sectors. DISPERBYK-2018 is intended more for organic and inorganic pigments and DISPERBYK-2019 for inorganic pigments.

DISPERBYK-2018 and DISPERBYK-2019 are two new wetting and dispersing additives that offer maximum performance, combining a strong reduction in viscosity (Newtonian flow) with excellent stability in storage and providing maximum performance in the pigments used.

Although both additives can be used in a wide variety of sectors, they differ from each other with regard to their recommendations according to the specific function. Although DISPERBYK-2018 achieves outstanding results in aqueous architectural paints across the whole spectrum of organic and inorganic pigments – including transparent iron oxides – both additives are suitable for flooring, industrial, maintenance, wood  and automotive coatings.

In summary, the new DISPERBYK-2018 and DISPERBYK-2019 additives are ideal for aqueous systems in which there is a requirement for excellent pigment stabilisation, a strong reduction in grinding viscosity (Newtonian profile) and excellent optical properties in terms of colour strength, transparency and high gloss. Their wide compatibility, the excellent reduction in viscosity that they provide, the optimum storage stability they achieve even at high pH and the absence of biocides and VOCs, place these two new wetting and dispersing additives as the perfect candidates to tackle the challenges of an increasingly demanding market.
