For another year, Comindex and BYK-Chemie are delighted to invite you to the 2017 edition of the seminars on paints to be held in several Spanish cities.

These events consist of a meeting point for paints technicians and strive to offer recommendations to users about everyday problems in the formulation of coatings.

The following subjects will be addressed in this edition’s seminars:

“Stability of aqueous dispersions of particles”
Pigment and filler dispersions are highly commonplace in the paints industry, although they are not easy systems to understand. Changes to legislation in the past and future changes in relation to health and the environment are compelling firms to reformulate many paints and a great deal of these aqueous dispersions; consequently, greater familiarity with them is now a pressing issue. What actually is the potential ζ? Why is so much said about it? Is it actually so significant? Why is stabilisation by steric hindrance so highly recommended when it entails increased costs? Why do floating problems or poor viscosity stability appear? This presentation will provide us with the tools to answer the above questions while clarifying certain basic concepts linked to dispersants and aqueous dispersions.

“Water-based systems: trends and new technologies”
Changes in market preferences and increasing pressure from regulations to reduce VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions have led many firms to consider moving from solvent-based technologies to water-based technologies. In a highly competitive sector such as the coatings industry, such a step would make no sense whatsoever without huge efforts being invested in the development of water-based technologies that can offer highly similar or, in some cases, enhanced properties compared to solvent-based ones.

This seminar will address some of the trends taking place in the formulation of the following water-based systems: acrylic dispersions, polyurethane dispersions and alkyd emulsions. We will also provide greater insight into their properties and why one or other products are used in such a diverse range of sectors like the protection of metal or wood surfaces, as well as decorative and architectural paints.

The seminars will take place in Spanish and are open to all paint manufacturers and other coating technicians.
