When used in combination light stabilisers (such as UV absorbers) and hindered amine light stabilisers (HALS), achieve a strong synergy of action acting as a protective barrier against UV radiation.

UV absorbers filter some of the sunlight spectrum (UVA), transforming it into heat that is subsequently dispersed through the coating surface.

However, hindered amine light stabilisers (HALS) do not absorb radiation; instead, they protect the coating resin from the harmful photochemical effects of free radicals by neutralising them, thereby hindering chemical degradation. HALS are regenerated during the neutralisation process, meaning they provide protection over the lifetime of the coating.

CHISORB 5530 + CHISORB 292 enhance the performance of outdoor coatings by avoiding gloss reduction, cracking, colour change, blistering and delamination when used in combination.

Chisorb ® 5530, from Double Bond Chemical Ind., Co., Ltd., is a hydroxyphenyl-benzotriazole UV absorber liquid at room temperature particularly developed for coatings. This light amber liquid is soluble in most organic solvents and is dispersible in aqueous systems, which makes it particularly useful for automotive and industrial coatings. Its broad UV absorption offers good protection of light sensitive base coats or substrates such as wood and plastics.

Chisorb ® 292 is a hindered amine light stabiliser (HALS) that provides outstanding light stability in the face of exposure to light and, in addition, gives coatings long-term stability against degradation through its radical trapping mechanism. As mentioned, its effectiveness can be greatly enhanced by co-addition of UV absorbers.
