We have a new pigment for plastics. What’s more, it is low cost! Are you familiar with it?

Our represented company DCL has developed a new yellow pigment, DCL-Y169-02, with colour index PY.169, for general plastics applications. And, it is low cost!

With an azo-metallic-based chemical structure, specifically calcium, this yellow pigment acquires a red hue.

Free from heavy metals and 3,3’-Dichlorobenzidine (DCB), with low primary aromatic amine concentration (PAA), this product is an excellent option for applications that must meet regulations governing indirect food contact, AP(89)1 and Mercosur.

Comparison of PY.169 with other yellow pigments

PY.169, with a red hue, bears a similar tone to diarylide PY.83 (PY.83), to isoindolines (PY.139 and PY.110) and to benzimidazolone (PY.181), but at a lower price.

Which properties make the DCL-Y169-02 yellow pigment stand out?

In addition to the properties stated – the low cost, being free of heavy metals and DCB, having low PAA concentration and meeting a host of regulations – the following features are also worth highlighting:

  • High heat stability (<260 ºC)
  • Excellent dispersion, comparable to other azo-metallic pigments
  • Excellent indoor light stability, comparable to other azo-metallic pigments
  • Low alkaline stability – calcium azo compounds tend to exhibit low stability at high pHs

Accordingly, we benefit from a low cost product that provides suitable performance for use in general plastics applications.
