Protect your coatings from corrosion

Corrosion processes are caused by an oxidation-reduction reaction in the presence of water. Firstly, the chemical reaction is involved while additionally, the flow of electrons – which is a physical phenomenon – is too. Corrosion culminates with the generation of various oxides – depending on the type of metal on which it occurs – leading to problems such as undesired colours and degradation of the metal itself.

If this chemical process occurs, some of the consequences may be:

Loss of adhesion between coating layers and the substrate (blistering, oxidation, delamination)
Total detachment of the protection
Leakage in installations due to cracks and deterioration of the metal
Structural failure and total deterioration of equipment

It is for this reason that Comindex presents you with the waterborne liquid corrosion inhibitors from our represented company Labema. Thanks to them, we can prevent corrosion both in metal packaging – as although they are protected, there are still weak points that are susceptible to corrosion, such as joints, fixing points, etc. – as well as on substrates.

We have two product ranges, EMADOX and AB RUST, which can be used in paints, varnishes, lubricants, water-soluble oils, temporary protection, detergents and others. Their inclusion in coatings instantly forms a protective film on the surface of the metal (on which the coating is applied), passivating it and giving rise to an alkaline pH to keep it protected. Therefore, we can achieve the following types of protection:

Protection of various metals such as iron, cast iron, carbon steel, etc.
In-can protection (in the packaging)
Anti flash-rust protection, i.e., prevention of the appearance of rust stains on metal substrates when applying aqueous products, during the drying process

These products provide temporary protection – they protect the metal while the coating or product in contact with the metal is “liquid” and the water is evaporating. For long-term protection throughout the coating lifespan, we have the EMARUST product range. These are liquid corrosion inhibitors, which can work in isolation as an alternative to anticorrosive pigments; or combined with them, in some instances, to create a synergistic effect.

We also have the VEGERUST range of products formulated with renewable, plant-based raw materials, enabling achievement of similar results to the other two product ranges.
