Hollow glass microspheres: less weight and shrinkage in your products

Comindex presents the new product we distribute: hollow glass microspheres.

Gain an in-depth understanding of what hollow glass microspheres are

Our represented company Sinosteel manufactures them with very thin walls – with a thickness varying between 1 and 3.5 μm. This gives them a low weight, whilst maintaining high strength.

We recommend their use as an alternative to traditional fillers in applications such as coatings, composites, adhesives, construction materials… where a reduction in the weight of the end product and the viscosity of the formulation is sought.

In addition, they are compatible with the majority of resins – thanks to their excellent water resistance and low alkaline performance – and they have very low absorbency – due to being a non-porous product.

We have a wide range of hollow glass microspheres featuring different values of pressure resistance, density and average particle size, enabling selection of the most suitable one for each application.

How do hollow glass microspheres improve the properties of the product?

Some of the advantages of incorporating this type of filler include:

  • Thermal insulation
  • Weight reduction
  • Reduction of VOCs through reducing the solvent content in the formulation (by incorporating a lower quantity of fillers that increase the viscosity, it is not necessary to add an additional solvent to correct the viscosity)
  • Reduction of shrinkage
