Comindex is marketing STP (silane-terminated) polymers, one of the latest technological innovations in the world of high performance adhesives and sealants.

STP or silane-terminated polymers have the following chemical structure:

The active end groups are siloxane groups that essentially endow the polymer with chemical reactivity and adhesive properties.

The central segment of the polymer is formed by polyether chains that provide key physical properties such as elasticity and help to enhance the adhesive performance of the end product.

The subsequent curing of the polymer is carried out by means of moisture reaction and a process of chain polycondensation.

STP polymers from Risun Polymer, an Asian manufacturer that produces these specialist products distributed by Comindex, afford the following performance enhancements compared to polyurethane-based (PU) polymers

  • The absence of isocyanates and solvents in their formulation makes them safe, environmentally-friendly products
  • They require a very small amount of catalyst, whether or not it incorporates tin
  • They have excellent weather resistance, excellent chemical resistance and remarkable resistance to yellowing caused by UV radiation
  • Fast curing and, unlike PU polymers, do not produce blistering
  • They are tack-free products
  • They are non-leachable products on outdoor applications
  • They have excellent direct adhesion to aluminium surfaces without the need for a primer
  • They are repaintable

The key applications for STP polymers include:

  • Construction
  • Home (domestic use)
  • Industry
