COMINDEX S.A. expands its portfolio by incorporating a new principal, OLNICA, specialising in security taggants for material protection.

Olnica is a French firm with headquarters and production centre in Rennes, France, although it also has offices in China and the USA.

Its field of activity centres on the development, production and marketing of security taggants to fight counterfeiting, and to protect goods and brand owners from tampering.

To this end, Olnica designs a specific taggant for each customer and application; in other words, each taggant is unique.

In terms of security there are four primary levels of protection:

Overt (visible): taggant detectable by observation, for instance, a logo or barcode.
Covert (invisible): taggant detectable by simple UV-light readers.
Covert (invisible): optical fingerprint detectable by specific readers such as a spectrophotometer.
Forensic (invisible): molecular DNA detectable only by specific laboratories by means of a scanning electron microscope (SEM).

OLNICA security taggants incorporate the three security levels: 2, 3 and 4; in each case, the level of protection we wish to detect may be defined. In the case of level 2, OLNICA taggants bear the specific trait of solely being detectable by specific UV-light sources.

They may be incorporated into countless systems, such as inks, paints, plastics, textiles, and so on, because they are effective under the conditions specified below and offer the following properties:

Temperature resistant up to 450ºC.
3 < pH < 14.
Colourless and cloudless into the material where they are reproduced (micron size particle)

Why consider using these taggants?

To benefit from traceability of the product from origin to point of application, avoiding false claims.
To control potential product tampering.
To endow products with a detectable seal or mark of authenticity either by using a single taggant for a manufacturer’s full production output or by using several taggants to distinguish between product lines and distribution channels.
