Give your ink that matte-effect: highlighting without glossing

Wednesday, 14 March, 2018

The silica matting agents marketed by Comindex can be incorporated into the inks industry whether they are used in overprint varnishes or liquid inks.

A common requirement with overprint varnishes is to look for matting agents that do not affect transparency, provide enhanced gloss reduction and are easily dispersible. For such cases, the following products are recommended: TSA-250L /TSA-260L /TSA-260.

In liquid inks, matting agents are also sought and, according to the type of system, the following references may be recommended:

1. For water-borne inks: TSA230 & TSA260
2. For solvent-based inks: TSA 260-L
3. For UV inks: HU210 and TSA-260L

It is necessary to bear in mind that when adding the matting agent to the ink, viscosity is affected causing thickening. The Lingwe TSA (silica gel) range is more suited to low viscosity flexographic, rotogravure and screen printing inks.

Series A (precipitated silica) is better for offset, typographic and dry offset, rotogravure and screen printing industrial printing inks that require higher viscosity.

Lingwe is an industrial group based in China with more than 20 years’ experience in developing high quality matting agents through wet processing. The company has an inorganic silica production centre in the Chinese city of Loudi and three application centres in three other Chinese cities: Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu, which provide excellent customer assistance and support.
