Alternative to polyurethane-based (PU) sealants/adhesives: RISUN polymers

Alternative to polyurethane-based (PU) sealants/adhesives: RISUN polymers

Tuesday, 14 March, 2017

RISUN POLYMER is an Asian company that manufactures STP polymers, one of the latest technological innovations in the world of high performance adhesives and sealants. The company is ISO 9001:2008 certified.

STP Polymers are silane-terminated polyethers that have the following chemical structure:

RISUN

The central section of the polymer is formed by polyether chains that lend it its main physical properties, such as elasticity, for example.

The active chain-end groups are siloxane coupling agents that essentially afford the polymer with adhesive properties and reactivity.

The subsequent curing of the polymer is carried out thanks to a humidity and a chain polycondensation process.

The key properties of STP polymers compared to PU-based polymers are as follows:

  • Isocyanate- and solvent-free formulations: safe, environmentally-friendly products.
  • Only need a highly reduced amount of tin or tin-free catalyst.
  • Excellent weather, chemical and UV non yellowing resistance.
  • Fast curing and, unlike PUs, they cure without forming bubbles.
  • Tack-free products.
  • Non-leachable products in outdoor applications.
  • Excellent direct adhesion to aluminium surfaces without needing a preliminary primer.
  • Excellent paintability.

The main areas of application of RISUN POLYMER STP products are as follows:

  • Construction
  • Domestic
  • Industry
  • Coatings
